Hellfest – ежегодный фестиваль хеви-метал музыки во Франции. является преемником Furyfest, фестиваля, который был организован группой приятелей, уставших от отсутствия концертов, отвечающих их интересам.

About Hellfest
Billed as an Extreme Music Fesitval, Hellfest takes place in Clisson in France on an annual basis. The event is usually held in the early summer, around June time. It started life way back in 2000 as Furyfest, an event put together by a group of Hardcore Punk buddies who were tired of the lack of concerts and parties that catered to their musical interest. Following a 30,000 person event Furyfest came to an end in 2005 due to financial difficulties. However, many of the people who worked for it did not want to see it end, so they contacted the sponsors and Hellfest was born.
Hellfest is understandably all about the Heavy Metal and its various bastard children. You can wrap your ears around a concrete selection of some of the finest names in the industry, with previous billings entertaining heavyweights such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Guns ‘N Roses and many, many more. With three main stages supporting a wide variety of different genres, there’s a non-stop wall of sound and plenty of mosh pit action to keep you head-banging until the early hours.
Want your festival with a little controversy? Then Hellfest in France could well be the event for you. This Heavy Metal themed party has garnered attacks from both politicians and the religious right, which in our mind gives it the stamp of approval for serious fans of this genre. As with Download in the UK, the atmosphere is surprisingly fun and open, with most attendees up for a good time rather than spending the whole weekend sacrificing chickens in their tents.

Highway to Hellfest – France’s largest metal festival
Hellfest, also known as Hellfest Open Air Festival is France’s undisputed king of metal music festivals and one of the 10 best metal festivals in Europe. The festival has two main stages and several small stages all featuring big named bands. The two main stages are dedicated to hard rock and metal. Other stages are focused on other genres like black metal, death metal, hardcore punk, doom metal or stoner rock. Hellfest has over 140 different bands that come together for three days to showcase their passion and enjoy it with fans from all over the world.
Big names like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Guns ‘N Roses, Alice in Chains, and Marilyn Manson are known to headline the festival. The event is also cashless, making use of rechargeable wristbands. Once you receive your ticket, you create an account using your barcode on the ticket. It is highly recommended to download the festival app so you can easily keep track of your account balance and re-up if you need to. This makes things simple, quick and secure. Most people camp at the festival and make use of the public showers and toilets, that for the size of the event, stay fairly clean – but it is always recommended to bring your own toilet paper.

How to Clisson
If you are traveling from abroad to join the festival, your best bet if to fly into Paris as the event organizers set up buses to transport you to the festival grounds. There are also trains and shuttles to and from the events, making getting around super easy and safe.
Where to stay for Hellfest
Most people camp on the grounds of the festival. However, if camping is not your style you can find hotels and Airbnb’s in the nearby town of Nantes. You’ll want to make sure you find and book a place as soon as you get your tickets. Head to the map below for all the accomodation deals near the venue.
New in 2024, the event offered different packages for festival goers, but have limited amount of spaces. They have the VIP coach, camping and hotel package which offers “offers you a covered and large terrace with a courtyard. Equipped and decorated, offering great comfort with sofas, chairs, clean toilets, and tables, it is the ideal place during the day to be able to rest, to meet, and to discuss between Bands” The camping package comes with 4-night coach packages, 3-day festival ticket and camping, the hotel package offers the same but a hotel instead of camping.
Things to do in Clisson
The festival last 3 days and has SO much to do that you’ll probably have to do a little bit of planning to see your favorite bands. There are multiple stages dedicated to different types of music so you’ll always be able to find someone to listen to. There are also various food and drinks stalls and with people coming from all over the world, there are endless possibilities of making and creating new friendships.
The town of Clisson, where Hellfest is held, is very historical and has castles and fortresses to explore, as well as loads of outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking and climbing. The town of Nantes is only forty minutes away and an easy train ride. Another historical town, there are heaps of vineyards and botanical gardens to explore.

Hellfest is a French heavy metal festival, held annually in June. It is one of the biggest metal festivals in Europe and the first to exist in France.
It originated from another music festival, called Fury Fest, which was held from 2002 to 2005. Hellfest took over in 2006 and has seen a continuous rise in visitors over the years, from 22,000 at the first edition to 55,000 tickets sold per day in 2017.
Its programming is primarily focused on hard rock and metal on the two main stages, while each of the festival’s four other stages is dedicated to a particular style, like black metal, death metal, or hardcore punk. Over the years, Hellfest visitors have seen performances of groups such as Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, ZZ Top, Motörhead, KISS, and many more.

How do I get to the festival?
If you plan on visiting Hellfest by train, the French train operator SNCF provides all the information you need to get to Nantes at the best possible price. Once there, the regional trains to Clisson are frequent and saving you time on your journey to the festival. SNCF has special-priced tickets for return journeys to the festival from stations in the region by train or coach.
Coming by car, there are toll roads and highways, and we advise you to arrive well in advance to avoid long delays and traffic jams on the outskirts of Clisson. Upon arrival, please pay attention to the signs indicating which way to go to the car parks.
If you are from abroad and coming into France by plane, the closest airport would be in Nantes. With Air France you benefit from special fares through an alliance with Hellfest. Once you buy your festival pass, you will get a reduction code detailing the offer and the duration of the promotion.
Is there a festival campsite?
Yes, there is a free campsite outside the main festival area that is available for all ticket holders. The campsite will open at 4 pm on 21 June, but campers must first collect their bracelets in order to access the site and pitch their tents. Only festival goers with a three-day or Friday pass may enter the campsite on Thursday evening. Those with a Saturday pass can enter from 10 am Saturday morning and Sunday pass holders may enter the campsite on Sunday morning, 10 am.
If you would rather not camp, you can best find a hotel or B&B in the nearby town of Clisson.
